Description
After extensive hands-on testing in our coffee lab, we’ve discovered that the Rocket Appartamento TCA represents a brilliant evolution of an already beloved espresso machine. Our team of certified baristas and coffee experts have put this striking Italian-made machine through its paces, and we’re excited to share our professional insights.
The original Appartamento made waves in 2017 with its distinctive aesthetics, joining the ranks of E61 heat exchanger machines. While it wasn’t revolutionary in terms of technology, its visual appeal set it apart from the crowd. However, as the coffee world moved forward, the original model needed a refresh to keep pace with modern features.
Enter the TCA version – a machine that not only builds upon its predecessor’s striking looks but introduces crucial performance upgrades that serious home baristas have been requesting.
Key Features and Specifications
Our detailed testing revealed these standout features:
- E65 Style 58mm Group
- 1.8L TEA coated & insulated Copper Boiler with Copper Heat Exchanger
- Vibration Pump
- Adjustable PID
- Adjustable OPV
- Solid Build with One Piece Chassis
- 2.5L water tank with low water detection
- Cool Touch Pro Steam Wand
- Optional 30 min auto off
The most significant upgrade – and one we’re particularly pleased to see – is the TCA (Temperature Control Adjustment) system with its adjustable PID temperature controller. This addition addresses what we considered the original model’s main shortcoming, especially when compared to similarly priced heat exchanger machines in recent years.
While the temperature control isn’t as extensive as dual-boiler systems (since adjusting the brew temperature also affects steam pressure), we found it perfectly suitable for most home barista needs. The factory preset of 93°C delivers excellent results with traditional espresso roasts once the E61 group is properly heated (20-30 minutes). The available temperature range (91°C, 93°C, 95°C, and 98°C) provides enough flexibility for pulling consistently delicious shots.
Aesthetically, Rocket has outdone themselves. The machine retains the Appartamento’s distinctive character while introducing fresh design elements. We’re particularly impressed with the unique triangular group design, which replaces the traditional rounded style and adds even more visual impact.
For coffee enthusiasts seeking a head-turning machine that excels at traditional espresso shots and delivers ample steam power for silky milk drinks, the Appartamento TCA deserves serious consideration. Its robust Italian construction promises decades of service with proper maintenance.
